Ayers , 84, of 212 Elm Street, Swansboro, died Thursday, August 27. Mr. Ayers was born in Lawton, West Virginia, the son of the late H.E. Ayers and the late Ethel Ayers . After graduation from Nuttall High School in 1943, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was accepted into the pre-flight program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from UNC with a degree in geology in 1949. Bob enjoyed a 40-year career as a land surveyor in the Chapel Hill area until his retirement to Swansboro in 1990. Mr. Ayers is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lou Ayers ; his daughters, Mary Elizabeth Ayers and husband, John Tuton, of Chapel Hill, Sara Ayers Brewer and husband, Rick Brewer, of Hillsborough and Rebekah Ayers Wood and husband, Elliott Wood, of Linville; and five grandchildren.
