  [S142] Newspaper Article, The Register Herald (Beckley, WV), 3 Mar 2015. Kenneth W. Large , age 88 of Daniels , passed away at the Beckley VA Medical Center on Saturday , February 28 , 2015 . Born in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1926, he was the son of the late Oliver Large and Mildred Kidwell Large . His music career as a band director began in Alderson, W. Va. and included teaching in Morristown, Tenn., Giles County, Va., University of North Alabama, East Tennessee State University, Marshall University, and Alleghany Virginia High School, where he retired in 1985. Mr. Large opened a music service store and ran it for many years before retiring. During his long career he won a number of championships, and his bands played for three Presidential Inaugurations. He was a much sought after band festival judicator and judged his last band festival at the age of 82. Mr. Large was a US Navy Veteran serving during World War II. Mr. Large is survived by his wife Hazel Nicely Large , two daughters, Ann Large of Acworth, Ga., Mary Ellen McQuitty of Virginia Beach, Va.; three, grandchildren, Amber Brown of Hurricane, W. Va., Crystal Pletka of Houston, Texas, and Megan Pletka of Dun Loring, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 1 p.m., with Minister Paul Zutaut officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley . Friends may visit with the family from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
