U.S. Veteran Galen Ray Burge, age 77, of Maryville, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Alcoa/Maryville Church of God, and was very faithful to their mission trips. He worked every week he could with Manna Outreach Ministries. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served during the Korean War. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Elizabeth Whaley Burge; daughter, Karen Sue Burge; parents, Arthur C. and Annie L. Reed Burge; sister, Shirley Barnes. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Janet Burge of Maryville; grandchildren, Nathan Burge, Ashley and Jessie Jeffries, Kenny Burge, and Shawna Burge; great-grandchild, Caden Jeffries; step-grandchildren, Joshua Roberts and Stephen Roberts; step-great-grandchildren, Hayleigh and Jared Roberts; sister, June Painter of Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Christine Thomas, and Mamie Smelcer; brother-in-law, Jack D. Whaley; special niece and nephew Charlotte and Sam Weathers; several nieces and nephews; and Jo Quarles. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foreign Mission program of Alcoa/Maryville Church of God, or Manna Outreach Ministries in care of Roy and Peggy Davis, 543 Cunningham St., Alcoa, TN 37701. Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Rev. Melvin Lonas and Rev. Ben Ward officiating.
