Mr. Joseph Richard Ford was born April 26 , 1927 , in the Grassy Fork community .
He retired from the United States Air Force and then worked several additional years until his eventual retirement from NASA.
He enjoyed many years of living in Melbourne, Florida and had just recently returned to live in his family home located in Grassy Fork .
Joe, also known as 'J.R.', was well liked by all who knew him and was always ready to greet you with a smile.
He was preceded in death by his wives Elsye and Betty, his parents Dewey and Ester Hill Ford , and his sister Audrey Ford .
Survivors include his sister Mary Ford Woody ('M.E.') of Grassy Fork , his niece Annalesa Woody of Austin, Texas, and his nephew Claradon 'Buster' Woody of Grassy Fork . Additional survivors include his step-children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews from both marriages.
At his request, Joe will be cremated following the completion of his gift of organ donation.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2016, in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00—3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home prior to the service. His cremains will be interred in Union Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, 526 Highway 73, Newport, TN 37821, in memory of Joe R. Ford and Betty.
