Jerda Mae King McCarter, 66, of Culberson Road, Greeneville, Tenn., formerly of Marshall, died Thursday at Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee.
Mrs. McCarter was a native of Madison County, a daughter of Sophia Rice King of Greeneville and the late Chester King.
She was the widow of Carl McCarter.
She was a homemaker and seamstress.
Mrs. McCarter was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, survivors include her children: Joan Gosnell of Mosheim, Tenn., Angela Kay Abshire of Leicester, J.C. and Patty McCarter of Old Fort, Dean and Kim McCarter of Valdese, Billie June "B.J." and Gerald Woods of Greeneville, and Judith Collins of Marshall; 15 grandchildren: Michael Gosnell of Weaverville, Missy Gosnell, Ronald Wills, and Brian Wills, all of Hot Springs, Tony McCarter and Amber McCarter, both of Old Fort, Tresa McCarter of Valdese, Merry McCarter of Creste, Matthew McCarter and Russell McCarter, both of Valdese, Chrissy Holt, Tasha Ramsey, and Jason Holt, all of Greeneville, Tamika Fore of Hot Springs, and Crystal Fore of Marshall; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters and brothers-in-law: Catherine and Albert Haney of West Virginia, Alberta and Phil Jeffers of Greeneville, Mary and Jackie Tullock of Raleigh, Margaret and Kenneth Cole of Sevierville, and Patsy and John Jones of Nashville; four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Paul and Fern King and Eldridge and Jean King, all of Greeneville, L.C. and Susie King of Weaverville, and Emerson King of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Hensley.
The family received friends from 7-9 Sunday evening at Bowman Funeral Home in Marshall.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at Meadow Fork Baptist church with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Larry Arrowood will officiate.
