Margaret Lucille Fowler McCarter, 74, of Valdese and formerly of Spring Creek in Hot Springs, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care of Valdese surrounded by her husband, Ray, and family members.
Mrs. McCarter was born March 29, 1940 in Madison County. She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Margaret loved her family and her church family at Charity Baptist Church in Valdese. She enjoyed flea marketing, yard sales and spending time with her family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Mildred Riddle Fowler; daughter, Deborah Lucille McCarter; son, Paul Ray McCarter; sisters: Wilma Sawyer and Ornon Bishop; brothers: R.K., Jimmy, Clayton and Woodrow Fowler.
Surviving are her loving husband of 56 years, Ray McCarter; sisters: Annie Stamey, Winnie Caldwell and Kathleen Treadway; brothers: Elbert Fowler and Johnny Otis Ledford; special nephews: Larry Sawyer, Dean and J.C. McCarter; and a multitude of other nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret considered all of her nieces and nephews to be her children and loved them as such. They all loved her and will miss her terribly.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Pastors Jimmy Moore and Richard Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery on Spring Creek.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon – 1 p.m. prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
