November 14, 1953 - June 3, 2010 Clyde, North Carolina Howard Dale McCarter, 57 of Clyde passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was born in Haywood County on November 14, 1953 to the late Grady Dale and Lucy Rathbone McCarter. He worked as a police officer and later as a fork lift operator at Evergreen Packaging. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by a son, Howard Dale McCarter, Jr. of Clyde; two stepdaughters, Angela Thomas of Clyde and Mandy Hawkins and her husband, Stephen of Canton; a sister, Carolyn McCarter Wood and husband, Chip Wood of Candler; four grandchildren, Austin Thomas, Brittney Thomas, Taylor Thomas and Clayton Hawkins; and a niece, Caitlin Wood. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, June 11, 2010 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Charlie Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, June 10 at Garrett Funerals and Cremations. Burial will be in Fines Creek Memorial Cemetery. Donnie Noland, Charlie Putnam, Marty Best, Walter Brooks, Bill Henry and Joe Bridges will serve as pallbearers.
