U.S. Veteran Clarence Walter Shelton, age 87, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Newport Convalescent Center. He was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. He was retired from Quaker Oats. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Charlsie Shelton; and sister, Betty Gorman. He is survived by his wife, Mary Crumb Shelton; daughter, Gail Anne Shelton Wilson (Gary); brothers, Frank Shelton (Barbara), Jimmy Shelton (Martha) all of Newport; George Pat Shelton (Shirley) of Jefferson City; sisters, Norma Jane Smith (Everette) and Mary Lynn Miller (Gary) all of Newport; also several nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Friday, June 17, 2016 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Runnions officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Building Fund. A special “Thanks” to Newport Convalescent Center, Newport Health and Rehab, and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Manes Funeral Home.

Sheltons celebrate 65th anniversary
Clarence and Mary (Crumb) Shelton of Newport celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last Wednesday. They were married by the Rev. Cecil Brockwell at his home on April 15, 1950. He was employed by Stokely’s and later retired from Quaker Oats, and she is retired from Newport Grammar School. They are members of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. Their daughter and son-in-law Ann and Gary Wilson treated them to a celebratory dinner on Saturday, April 18, at the Greenbrier Inn.
