Ruth C. Manuel , 87, of Greeneville, passed away Friday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Manuel retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center after 26 years of service.
Ruth was a devoted mother, loving grandmother, and a caring and kind friend to all. She never met a stranger. She loved her family, friends, and the Lord.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ on Tusculum Boulevard.
Ruth loved to cook, can, and bake. She would welcome anyone entering her home with a "loving" hot meal.
She was known for her kindred spirit and loving heart. She will be missed by all.
Survivors include her children: Terry Lee Manuel , Larry Douglas Manuel and wife, Katherine, all of Greeneville, Maria RuthAnn Manuel of Atlanta, Ga., and Rosemary Swagerty and husband, Charles Leroy, of South Haven, Mich.; her grandchildren: Lt. Cmdr. Walter Felix Manuel of Chestertown, Md., Brandon Manuel , Terrance Manuel , Tessa and Derrick Woods, Larry Manuel Jr. and Michelle, Shandi and Jonathan Hill, Enid and Anthony Derricott, Ian Mayfield, Darryl Swagerty, Darren Swagerty, Monique Townsly, and Alyssa Swagerty; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Manuel , Makayla Woods, Derrick Jordan Woods, Asialyn Manuel , Nickelette Long, Trace Manuel , Trenton Manuel , Teagan Manuel , Gage Manuel , Jania Hill, Aiden Derricott, and Tavyan Swagerty; a very special niece and her husband: Alonia and Louis Sharp; two brothers: Joseph Curtis of Las Vegas, Nev., and Walter Curtis of Upper Marlboro, Md.; her special friends: Mary and Ella Dickson, Fannye Mae Jones, Joyce Hamilton, Lillian Manuel , Harry Carrier, Joe Hickerson, Mr. and Mrs. Yearwood, Faith Foley, Priscilla Ray, Pearl Luvene, Mr. and Mrs. Southerland, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lambert, Janie Pruitt, and Brandy Swan; and host of other church members, family members, and friends whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years: Kenneth G. Manuel ; her parents: Benjamin and Marguerita (Chapman) Curtis; and siblings: Ottway Curtis, Wesley Curtis Sr., Vivian Love, Lillian Fletcher, and Oliver Curtis.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-4 p.m. Wednesday at Greeneville Church of Christ on Tusculum Boulevard with the funeral service following at 4 p.m. at the church. Shane Hoover, minister, will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Woods, Jonathan Hill, Phillip Manuel , Harry Carrier, Walter Manuel , Harvey Curtis, Michael Love, Cecil Ellenburg, Chris Nicely, Ronnie Curtis, Larry Curtis, and Clarence Curtis.
Her great-grandchildren and friends will service as flowerbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Laughlin HealthCare and the ICU staff at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
