Alyssa DeVona Swagerty Weds James Willis
JOHNSON CITY — Alyssa DeVona Swagerty and James Heath Willis, both of Greeneville, were married at 4 p.m. June 20, at the pavilion at Maple Lane Farm in Johnson City.
The officiating minister was Pastor Harold Jones, of Del Rio. Prayer and Scripture readings were given by Tina Reece, the groom’s sister, of Del Rio.
The bride is the daughter of Charles and Rosemary Swagerty, of South Haven, Mich.
The groom is the son of Esten and Juanita Willis, of Del Rio.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father.
The bride wore a full-length, white satin dress styled with an A-line silhouette and a satin lace-up corset back. Beaded lace decorated the bodice and chapel-length train. The satin skirt was overlaid with organza and tulle, with a number of pick ups to form a horizontal draping effect.
Her elbow-length veil was edged with pearls, beads and sequins.
The bride carried a bouquet of ivory hydrangeas, light-pink Geraldine roses and spray roses, and variegated pittosporum.
The maid of honor was Monique Yvette Swagerty, the bride’s sister, of South Haven.
Bridesmaids were Morgan Bierhalter and Mallory Wessels, both of Kentwood, Mich., and Sara Carrier, of Greeneville.
The junior bridesmaid was Madelyn Reece, the groom’s niece, of Del Rio.
The attendants wore full-length, aqua chiffon dresses, overlaid with tulle and worn with silver beaded belts.
The ringbearers were James Landen Willis, the son of the couple, of Greeneville, and Tavyan Andrew Swagerty, the bride’s nephew, of South Haven.
The best man was Tim Brannon, of Newport.
Groomsmen were Mathew Elliott, of Newport, Max Laughter, of Grassy Fork, and Bob Schaff, of Del Rio.
Ushers were Tomario Bell, of South Haven, and Nathan Reece, the groom’s nephew, of Del Rio.
The mothers of the couple lit a candle in memory of the deceased grandparents of the couple, the bride’s uncle and the groom’s uncle.
The mother of the bride wore a three-piece suit with a black and gold floral lace jacket over a fulllength black skirt.
The mother of the groom wore a layered lace printed dress with an ivory, floral lace crochet shrug.
Both mothers wore wrist corsages of white snowflake spray roses and aqua baby’s breath.
Music for the ceremony was provided by soloist Amanda Belton, of Newport, and Angela Campbell, of Greeneville.
Marlon Brooks, of Knoxville, was the deejay.
The wedding and reception directors were Alonia Sharps, of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Pearl Luvene, of Rogersville.
The reception was also held at the pavilion. The tables were covered with white linen tablecloths.
Centerpiece arrangements for each table were aqua linen mates topped with black candlelit lanterns, aqua and silver beaded candles, rose petals and aqua jewels.
The fireplace and mantel were decorated with Boston ferns, black candlelit lanterns, two-tier lighted candles on each side, and a centerpiece of silk white and aqua hydrangeas, dahlias, roses and peonies.
The four-tier cake set atop a white pearl cake stand with a silver rhinestone beaded band. The cake flavors were marble, red velvet, white vanilla and cookies-and-cream.
Two tiers had aqua frosting with buttercream rosettes, and two tiers had white frosting in a quilted design.
The cake topper was black and inscribed with the wedding date and the couple’s name, “Mr. and Mrs. Willis.”
The groom’s cake was a round, blue frosted red velvet cake featuring the groom’s officer’s badge, number and agency.
The “guestbook” was a “Wedding Tree Canvas” that was attended by Tessa Woods, of Parrottsville.
Servers were Shandi Hill and Jania Hill, both of Russellville, Aryana Luvene and Jaylen Luven, both of Anderson, S.C., Asialyn Manuel, of Greeneville, and Tessa Woods.
Special assistance was provided by Alana and Ty Krotzer, of Garner, N.C., Lorraine Carby, of Upper Marlboro, and Isaiah Manuel, of Johnson City.
Following a wedding trip to Kissimmee, Fla., the couple resides in Greeneville.
The bride is employed as a correctional officer with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. The groom is employed as a patrol sergeant with the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department, in Newport.
Out-of-town guests attended from Las Vegas, Nev.; New York City, N.Y.; Fort Lee, N.J.; Upper Marlboro, Md.; Garner, N.C.; Anderson, S.C.; Alpharetta, Ga.; South Haven, Mich.; Mayport, Fla.; Morristown, Del Rio, Greeneville, White Pines, Parrottsville, Russellville, Newport, Dandridge and Knoxville.
Among the prenuptial parties was a June 1 shower given by the bride’s family and friends at Tello Italian Bistro in South Haven; and the June 19 rehearsal dinner given by the groom’s parents at the Golden Corral in Johnson City.
