Ruby Jane Van Dyke Cassell , age 81, of Newport, passed away Thursday evening, February 20, 2003, at Baptist Hospital of Knoxville, after an extended illness. She was born in Jefferson County, TN December 17, 1921. Mrs . Cassell was the daughter of the late William Andrew Van Dyke and Bertha Margaret Mills Van Dyke . In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Maude Van Dyke , Gladys Mae Ellis and a brother, Daniel Andrew Van Dyke . Survivors include her husband, L.B. Cassell , of Newport; daughters, Lois Odom and Linda Huth, both of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Brian Davis, Lance Richter, Scott Davis, C.J. Odom, and Alicia Richter Fink; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2003, at the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Gorrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
