Anita Hollingsworth Mooty, age 74, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday morning, with her husband of 54 years by her side, following a lengthy illness. “Miss Nita” was the devoted wife of Tom Mooty, pastor of West End Baptist Church. She was dedicated to serving alongside him in their 50 years of ministry as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.S. and Miriam Hollingsworth and by her sister, Betty Jo Chumley as well as her in-laws, Fred and Josephine Mooty and brother-in-law, Bob Mooty. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Ed Mooty, daughters Jolynn Doty and Lisa Ottinger; sons-in-law Cal Doty and Larry Ottinger; grandchildren Sean Mooty, Catie Mooty, Charlee Doty, Savanna Doty, Gracie Ottinger, and Jack Ottinger; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Donna Mooty; aunt Betty Reese; several nieces and nephews; and the members of West End Baptist Church in Newport and First Baptist Church of Wartburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19 at West End Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of the Family Practice Center, the Newport Medical Center, and the Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for their tender care.
