MURPHY, MAGGIE MAE PARTON - age 97, widow of Clarence Murphy, of 145 Lower Smithfield Rd., Tellico Plains, passed away 9:35 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at NHC of Athens. Member of Coker Creek Baptist Church. Taught weaving at Phi Beta Pi Settlement School, Gatlinburg. In the early 1930's, she presented Eleanor Roosevelt with the material she wove to make a dress. Survivors: children & spouses, Ralph & Wanda Murphy, Ruth & Ronald West, Joann Watson, Jannette & Bill Holt, all of Coker Creek; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 expected great great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents, John & Elizzie McCarter Parton, son-in-law, Jim Watson. Funeral 8 P.M. Friday, Biereley-Hale Chapel, Rev. Mark Kelly officiating. Interment 11 A.M. Saturday, Coker Creek Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Friday at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Tellico Plains.
