BARNES , MARIETTA GARNER - Our heavenly Father took a precious angel home today. Marietta went with her Lord to her new heavenly home to be with all her family and friends awaiting her there. Marietta departed this life at her home in Newport, Tenn., surrounded by the family she shared so much love with. She was a member of Reidtown Community Church and of the Baptist faith. She was retired from Tennessee Handbags, Dandridge, Tenn. She was the widow of the late Oscar Barnes and the daughter of the late Charlie and Virgie Garner. They are waiting to greet her just inside those pearly gates to hold her by the hand and walk the street of gold with her. Marietta is survived by her one brother, Carl Garner and his wife, JoAnn of Athens, Tenn.; daughters and sons in law, Dorothy and Richard Chesteen, Shirley and Bill Helton, Betty Montgomery, and Gail Gann all of Newport; sons and daughters in law, Charlie and Mary Barnes , Steve and Marie Barnes , and Rodney Barnes all of Newport. She was a beloved grandmother of twenty grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren. She was a beloved aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. She is also leaving behind many special friends who will join her in her new home later. The family will receive friends Friday evening March 8 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday March 9 at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend J.D. Sisk and Jim Tolbert officiating. Burial will be immediately following the service at France Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mrs. Marietta Garner Barnes.
