McCOIG , FRED NOLEN - age 86, of Newport, passed away Monday evening, at his home following a lengthy illness. Nolen was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as past Chairman of Deacons, Church Treasurer for ten years, Sunday school teacher and Training Union Director. He had worked at Alcoa Aluminum, Overholt's Hardware and retired from Newport Federal in 1982, after 21 years of service. Nolen was preceded in death by: his first wife, Beth Murrell McCoig ; his parents, Abigail and Albert McCoig ; brothers, Forrest and Frank McCoig . He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Ethel Sweeten McCoig of Newport; son, David and his wife, Jerelene McCoig of Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Beatrice and her husband, Roland Bible; and brother, James and his wife, Charlotte McCoig , all of White Pine; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Lindsay officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., prior to the service. Interment at 10 a.m., Thursday in the Union Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home in charge.
