WHALEY, FERN S. - 95, of Mayfield, KY, formerly of Sevier County, TN, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center. A retired teacher and member of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, Mrs. Whaley earned her bachelor's degree from The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Seymour, TN, where her husband served as pastor for 15 years. Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Glenn R. Whaley; her mother Nora Smith; her sisters Martha Horn, Opal Hicks, Nell Turner, and her brother Billy Smith. She is survived by one son: Rev. David Whaley (Katrina) of Mayfield, KY; four grandchildren: Dr. Michele Atkins (Jim) of Milan, TN, Stacie McIntosh (Deron) of Franklin TN, MelodyWheat (Tim) of Brandon, MS and David Whaley Jr. (Tiffany) of Mayfield, KY; nine great grandchildren: Zachary James (Angel) of Bradford, TN, Elizabeth and Emilee Atkins of Milan, TN, Hannah and Lucas McIntosh of Franklin, TN, Madison, Michaelah and Maicie Wheat of Brandon, MS, and Logan Whaley of Mayfield, KY; and one great, great grandson: Cayson James of Bradford, TN. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. at Stock Creek Baptist Cemetery in Knoxville, TN. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 23, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
