Virginia Leah Southerland Steelman, of Hot Springs, N.C., went to be with her Lord on Wednesday morning February 18, 2009, she was 78 years old. Virginia attended church at Wolf Creek Baptist, in TN, and the Salvation Army Church in N.C. Musically talented at an early age Virginia loved playing the piano. Virginia married John Lewis Steelman on November 26, 1960 and made their residence in Hot Springs, N.C. Virginia loved God, church, family and life. She was very strong willed and independent. She would give as much as she could to provide for her family. She raised three loving children and took them to church often. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Steelman; mother and father Lucy and Oscar Southerland; son, John Charles Steelman; brother, Charles Southerland; Sister, Geraldine Southerland Willett, all of Hot Springs, N.C. Virginia is survived by a sister, Marguerite Motella Pierce, of Newport, TN.; children, Shawn Steelman, Sr.; and wife, Tina Ricker Steelman of Hot Springs, Shane Steelman and wife Patricia Steelman of Del Rio, TN, Shannon Jones and husband J.C. Jones, of Greeneville, TN, five grandchildren, Shawn Steelman, Jr., and Jake Steelman, of Hot Springs, N.C., Tiffany Buckner, of Weaverville, NC, Allison Steelman, of Castlewood, Virginia, Kayla Steelman, of Del Rio, TN., one great grandchild Alexis Steelman, of Newport, TN. Funeral services 11 A.M. Saturday Feb. 21, 2009 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday Feb. 20, 2009 at Manes Funeral Home.
