John Lewis Steelman , 64, of Hot Springs, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, March 29, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, after a lengthy illness.
John was an Army veteran and a retired employee of Norfolk-Southern Railway after 39 years of service.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Charles Steelman ; and parents, Charlie and Edna Steelman.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Virginia Leah Southerland Steelman of the home; two sons, Shawn D. Steelman Sr. of Hot Springs, North Carolina, and Shane S. Steelman of Wolf Creek, Tennessee; one daughter, Shannon M. Jones of Greeneville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Shawn D. Steelman Jr., Allison Leah and Kayla Marie Steelman, and Tiffany Barnes; one brother, Charles Steelman of Fletcher, North Carolina; five sisters, Beatrice Ricker of Wolf Creek, Tennessee, Suzanne Amoroso of Lady Lake, Florida, Hilda Coggins of Newport, Tennessee, Mary McMahan of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Violet Lindsey of Fletcher, North Carolina; also several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday evening at the Manes Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Hayes and Rev. Dale Maloy officiating, with burial in the Fairview Methodist Church Cemetery, Blood River near Hot Springs, North Carolina.
Manes Funeral Home is in charge.
