BATESVILLE, Ind. - Benson Charles Houston , 82, of Batesville, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at his residence.
Born March 21, 1927, in Manchester, Ky., he was the son of the late John and Serilda ( Napier ) Houston . He moved to this area at a young age, and lived much of his life in Franklin County.
On March 7, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Paulina Hicks, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2007. He was a U.S. Army weteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Metamora, Ind., as well as the National Rifle Association. A retired farmer, he had farmed in Franklin County for most of his life.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosena Kennedy of Batesville, and a son, Roger Houston of Lawrenceburg, Ind., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Pearl Houston in 1997, as well as seven brothers and sisters.
Rev. Randall Edwards, pastor of the Elm Grove Baptist Church, will officiate the funeral services on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Metamora.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Elm Grove Baptist Church, 19290 Haytown Hill Road, Metamora, Indiana 47030.
Burial with military graveside services by the Bernard Hurst Post No. 77 of the American Legion will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Ind.
