Funeral for General Sherman (G.S.) Spoon, 84, 923 Iowa, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 1980 in the Central Church of Christ, Sixth and Iowa. Jim Sheerer, minister will officiate assisted by Dr. Sam Evans.
Mr. Spoon was born June 5, 1895 at Boonville, Ark. He died Wednesday, April 23, 1980 in Grady Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Spoon came to Oklahoma from Boonville in 1909 and had lived in Chickasha for the past 55 years. He and Zorada Belle Ogle were married of Sept. 10, 1916 at Tabler. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last September.
He was a farmer and custodian. He worked at Chickasha High School for 27 years and at the Central Church of Christ for 18 years. He retired three years ago.
Mr. Spoon was a deacon and member of the Central Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Zorada Belle Ogle Spoon, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Velma L. Pierson of Midwest City; a sister, Mrs. Lydia True of Alex; two brothers, Lee M. Spoon of Blanchard, and Walter L. Spoon of Roseville, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great great granddaughters. One son, Leonard V. Spoon preceded him in death in June 1946.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
