Howard Monsieur Barkley, 81, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Gruver United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Mr. Barkley was born Aug. 11, 1920, in Hansford County to Monsieur Franklin and Margie Harris Barkley, one of nine children. He resided in Hansford County his entire life and was involved in farming. He was a World War II veteran and served in the European Theater. He served on the Hansford County Hospital District Board and served as a committee member on Hansford County A.S.C.S.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Verna Tomlinson Barkley; his parents; three brothers, Hugh, Herman and Dayton; and a grandson, Chad Barkley.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Gruver and Perryton; six children, Daniel of Duncanville, Arlene Biebesheimer of Jonesboro, Ark, Tim of Gruver, Scott of Meade, Kan., Roger of Tulsa, Okla., and Kay McGregor of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Estelle Chambers of Dalhart and Lera Beasley of Gruver; and three brothers, Harry of Memphis, and Rod and Les, both of Gruver.
The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
The family will be at 110 Cooper Ave. in Dumas.
