April 30, 1935 - August 16, 2015 Roger Franklin Cureton, age 80 of Knoxville, departed this life on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at home. Born in Jefferson City, TN, his family later moved to Knoxville where he graduated from Fulton High School. Roger was employed by the A & P Food Store chain for 26 years and also worked for Food Lion and Food City. He was a former National Guard Reservist and an AFL-CIO union member. Roger was an honest, good natured man who worked hard to provide and care for his family. He had a kind heart, was willing to help others, and shared a love for animals with his family who loved him and will miss him so very much. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Lucas and Effie (Thomas) Cureton, of Knoxville: sister, Mary Kathleen "Kat" Mills Nelson, formerly of Brunswick, GA; as well as an infant sister; brothers, Thomas Cureton and Winfred Cureton, of Knoxville, Charles "Burnett" Cureton, of Talbot, TN, James Cureton, of Noonan, GA, and Ray Cureton, of Jefferson City. Roger leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Martha "Joyce" Hodges Cureton; daughters, Tammy Lou Cureton and Laurie Ann (Cureton) Grooms; special grand-daughter, Britney Danielle Grooms, all of Knoxville; brother, Eugene Cureton; sister-in-law, Frances Hodges; son-in-law, Michael E Grooms, all from Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family wishes to thank Frances Hodges, Fred and Tammy Goodrich, Jimmy Troutt, Bettye Kennedy, Linda Cruze, and the ladies, Richard Richter, and the Covenant Hospice staff for their help and support during this difficult time. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Richard Richter officiating. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland South Cemetery, 9010 Simpson Road, at 12:15pm for a 12:30pm graveside service.
