Ethel Runion Mizell, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many, passed away from this life Wednesday August 24, 2011 at Colonial Hills Nursing Center, just five days before her 95th birthday. Raised in the Baptist faith, she will celebrate her birthday in Heaven. A native of Etowah, TN, Mrs. Mizell was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Scott Runion; brothers, Carroll, John, Warren, and Wesley Runion; sister, Virginia Cutter; husband, Joseph Earl Mizell; great granddaughter, Victoria Rose Mizell, who dearly loved her Mamaw. Survivors include her children, Earline Elkins (Don) of Cookeville, TN, Kay Bryan (Gerry) of Jacksonville, FL, Ray Mizell (Kay); Judy Mizell and Phil Mizell, all of Maryville; grandsons, Mark Elkins (Richelle), Daniel Elkins (Amelia Noel Elkins), Thomas Mizell (Cristal), David Bryan (Stacy), Michael Bryan (Michelle), Scott Beaver (Kristal), whom she loved like one of her own; great grandchildren, Tyler, Anna, and Joseph Elkins, Madison Mizell, Miles and Mason Bryan, Payton, Emmy, and Lucas Beaver; sister, June Radford, Maryville; several sisters in law who were also like sisters to her; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she touched many young lives during her years working in the Sam Houston Elementary School Lunchroom and later assisting in the New Providence Presbyterian Church nursery. Ethel crocheted many doilies and afghans for family and friends and was known for her special Hamburger Pie. A special thanks to the staff at Colonial Hills, who cared for her this past year. The family is also grateful to Blount Memorial Hospice, for their loving care and concern during Ethel’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Hospital, P.O. Box 3624 Durham, NC 27710, in memory of Victoria Rose Mizell, who left this life too soon and left a huge void in her Mamaw’s heart. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Saturday, August 27, 2011, with the funeral service officiated by Rev. S.M. Johnson Atchley to follow at Miller Funeral Home, 915 W. Broadway, Maryville. Interment will be Sunday, August 28, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Hickory Valley Cemetery in Friendsville. (865)982-6041 www.millerfuneralhome.org
