Resided in Sevierville, TN
Dennis David Teague, age 60, of Sevierville recently moved from Niceville, Florida to retire in his hometown. Dennis passed away on May 31, 2015 in Knoxville, TN due to cancer complications. He was a devoted husband, father, son, uncle and friend. Growing up, Dennis enjoyed spending time with his brother, Marcus, in the outdoors. He hiked the Smoky Mountain Appalachian Trail and was an avid traveler. His love for nature and animals led him to complete a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Wildlife Management. He served five years as a Peace Corp volunteer in Tanzania, East Africa where he met his wife Mariamu. During his time in the Peace Corp he taught the people of Tunduru, Tanzania to be a self-sustainable community by teaching them to farm fish. During his time in Africa, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, the largest mountain on the African continent.
Dennis Teague recently retired from 25 years of service as an Endangered Species Biologist for the Jackson Guard Natural Resources Branch at Eglin AFB in Niceville, FL. He was a dedicated civil servant who worked to increase the Florida endangered wildlife population. Prior to moving to Niceville, he worked for the Everglades and Smoky Mountains National Park Services. Dennis was a member of the First United Methodist Church (Crosspoint) in Niceville, FL for 24 years and was a devoted volunteer at one of the church's benevolence ministries, The Bargain Box. He was also a children's Sunday school teacher for many years. "He was a devout Christian and led his life as an example of Christ's love."
Dennis enjoyed music, literature and being outdoors with his wife, Mariamu, and three daughters, Rebecca, Mary Alice, and Mwajuma. The family loved to hike, canoe, visit historical and national parks, and volunteer together in the community. Dennis loved riding his Harley Davidson and had an artistic-eye which he used to create and build many things for his family and friends. Dennis was known for his ability to love and accept others for who they were and made people feel special and confident in their abilities. He had an inert drive to help those around him and loved to serve his family, friends, and community.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents Dock and George Ann Teague; Orville Blaine Dennis; Jean Wear and Dana Parrot; brother and sister-in-law Marcus Houston Teague and Blanch Burkett.
