Margaret Louise Brown , 85, of Brown 's Circle, Greeneville, in the St. James Community, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Herbert Lamons. She was a very active and devoted member of St. James Lutheran Church.
She was a member of St. James Young at Heart, WELCA, and Nolichuckey Ruritan Club, of which she was the first female member. She was also a member of several church committees.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, John A. Brown Sr.; two step-sons and spouses: Roger T. and Sally Brown , of Greeneville, and John, Jr. and Janice Brown , of Manassas, Va.; one step-daughter and spouse: Brenda and George Olafsen, of Jeffersonton, Va.; step-grandchildren and spouses: Erin and Jesse Fearins, of Nashville, TN; Ben Brown , of Greeneville; Tina Brown Murrow and Keith, of Springfield, Va.; Tracy Brown Conover and Andrew, of Norfolk, Va.; Jennifer Brown , of Woodbridge, Va.; step great-grandchildren: Sidney Brown , Lily Conover, Jackson Murrow; one sister, Elizabeth Bradford, of Johnson City; special nephew and spouse: Billy and Glenda Blazer, of Mosheim, TN; and niece, Judy Rader, of Greeneville, TN; several cousins.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Orpha Neas Smelcer and was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Armitage ; one sister, Ruth Rader; and a nephew, David Rader.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Monday at Kiser Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Benedict officiating.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Cemetery.
Pallbearers are George Olafsen, Ben Brown , Ronnie Dabbs, Keith Murrow, Jesse Fearins, Henry Stowers, Roger Brown , and John Brown Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Nolichuckey Ruritan Club, St. James Young at Hearts, Dr. Maynard Austin, Dr. Uma Ramadoss, Dr. A.K. Sen, Dr. William Hamilton, and Dr. Herbert Lamons.
The body remained at Kiser Funeral Home throughout the services. The family received friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Kiser Funeral Home. It is requested that family and friends meet at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. James Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall for Kitchen Remodeling Fund or to the St. James Community Center.
