Cora Elizabeth Smelcer Blazer Bradford , of Magnolia Avenue , Johnson City, passed away with her family and friends at her side on Sunday night, July 19, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center after a courageous battle with lymphoma cancer. She was 94.
She was born on October 22, 1920, the daughter of the late Orpha Neas Smelcer and Earnest Smelcer in the St. James Community. She was a graduate of St. James High School and a member of the St. James Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Bradford had been employed at Hills and Ames Department stores in Johnson City and more recently at Ross Clothing store where she worked until age 93. She took great joy in working and assisting customers. She was recognized in 2010 as the Employee of the Year.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed hosting family reunions for many years with her late husband at the family farm in Greene County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Ogle Blazer and D.P. Bradford ; two sisters and their husbands: Louise Armitage Brown and Charles Armitage and Ruth and Buford Rader; one nephew: David Rader.
Survivors include her devoted son and daughter-in-law: Billy and Glenda Blazer ; special cousins: Evelyn Smith, Marie Ottinger, Alice Rader, Claude Smelcer , and Juanita Nease; special friends: Commie Reaves, Kate Street, Wilma Broyles, Margaret Bowers, Anna Brooks, Donna Robinson, Anita Street and Pete Tannerhill.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22nd, in the chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Long and Minister Mike Bradford will officiate. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, 1125 Tusculum Boulevard, Greeneville.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ray Winter, Rufus Weller, Harold Weller, Claude Tunnell, Shane Malone, and Seth Malone.
