Owens , age 11, of Sumter, SC went to be with her Lord Friday, September 23, 2005 due to injuries in a motor vehicle accident. Alexis attended Cherryvale Elementary school. She was in the 4th grade. She was preceded in death by her father, Tommy Owens , Jr. and one brother, Dakota Cole Palmer. She is survived by her mother, Monica Evans Palmer of Sumter, SC; sister, Chastity Jordan, also of Sumter, SC; grandparents, Tommy and Martha Owens of Newport; special uncle, Terry Owens and wife, Jessica, of Newport; aunts, Brenda Owens and Barbara Presley, also of Newport. Alexis will be missed by several cousins and numerous friends. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. following the visitation. Reverend Lynn Henry will officiate. Graveside service will be conducted Monday, September 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. in Union Cemetery. (AP) - A second child has died following a wreck in Sumter earlier this month. Eleven-year-old Alexis Owens died Thursday morning at Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia. Her nine-year-old brother, Dakota Palmer, died at the scene on September 15th. The children's 13-year-old sister, Chasity Jordan, was last reported in stable condition at the hospital. Police say none of the children were wearing a seat belt. Police Chief Patty Patterson say their mother, 30-year-old Monica Victoria Evans, has been charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence resulting in death and one count of felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury.
