Robert Lee Gibson, of Seymour, Tennessee, born May 17, 1924, in Blount County, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 28, 2015. He retired from the University of Tennessee after working 36 years in the Police Force and Key Shop. He was known to many as Captain Gibson, with a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, farming, and attending UT sports events. He was a member of Ellejoy Baptist Church.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents George and Lucy Gibson, and his brother James Gibson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Etta Mae French Gibson; son Jerry (Connie) Gibson; son Mike (Ronda) Gibson; granddaughters Michelle Gibson, Samantha Gibson, Justine Gibson, and Micah (Trent) Stewart, with great-grandchildren Baylee, Bryson, Brooke, and Blakely Stewart; grandsons Nathan Gibson, Chad Long, Greg (Grace) Gibson, with great-grandchildren Cora and Iver Gibson, Brett Gibson with great-grandson Aiden Gibson; sister Margaret Compton; Special cousin Marjorie Nunley and family; Sister-in-law Sue Keller; many nieces and nephews; many special friends; and the Ellejoy Baptist Church family.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Robert Gibson to Ellejoy Baptist Church, 1290 Ellejoy Road, Seymour, Tennessee 37865.

The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in Atchley's Seymour Chapel; Pastor Greg Gibson and Pastor Arkie Baker officiating.
