Dewey Strange, a member of Cocke County Court for 16 years, will be buried today in Union Cemetery. He was 92.
Mr. Strange died Tuesday at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. An avid horseman, he was director and founder of Smoky Mountain Fox Hunters Association, director of the Cocke County Farm Bureau Association and director and founder of the Tennessee-Carolina Fair Association.
Mr. Strange was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newport; in addition, he was the only man in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church to have a Women's Missionary Circle named in his honor.
He was preceded in death by wife, Ida Shrader Strange; parents, Charles and Martha Strange; and great-grandson, Brandon Blazer. Survivors: daughter, Peggy Strange, Dandridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Hubert Henry, Dandridge, Libby and Jack Sartain, Newport; brother, Charles H. Strange, Morristown; and sister, Helen Cotton, Dandridge.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Starks, leading the service.
Contributions may be made to the Dewey Strange Sunday School Class or the Dewey Strange Circle of the First United Methodist Church.
Manes Funeral Home in Newport is in charge.
