Mrs. LaVerria Mae Spivey, 90, of Winston-Salem died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Sevier County, Tenn., to Louis Baxter and Bessie Bohanan Proffitt. Mrs. Spivey was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church and had attended Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer. She was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 1134 (6364); and an active member of AmVets Ladies Auxiliary No. 777; and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are three children, Norma Jean Workman, of Winston-Salem, Jim Spivey and wife Laura, of Winston-Salem and Doug Spivey and wife Cheryl, of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Brian Yokley, of Winston-Salem, Holly Huffman, of East Bend, Jay Spivey, of Winston-Salem, Cullen Spivey, of Charlotte, Sara Green, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Beau Spivey of Lylburn, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wilma Holloway, of Linwood and Helen Wilkerson, of Highlands, Texas; and a special friend, Lucille Stewart, of Clemmons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Gross and Chaplain A. G. Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. before the service.
