Thomas Houston Mabe , age 86 of Maryville, WWII veteran of the European Theater of Operations in France, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Asbury Place. He had resided at Home-Away-From-Home for the past 15 months and attended Hickory Valley Baptist Church. Tom was preceded in death by parents, William Joseph and Nola Blair Mabe ; wife, Virgie Davis Mabe ; infant son, William; son, Mahlon Thomas Mabe ; great-grandson, Lee Payne; and nephew, David West. Survivors include his sister, Nell West of Knoxville; and niece, Elaine; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Donald Simerly, Phyllis and Louie Simerly; daughter-in-law, Brenda Mabe of Illinois; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Nanette Mabe ; grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Joann Benson of Nashville, Doyle and Valerie Simerly, Tammie and Jackie Payne, Tonya and Anthony McCarter, Raven and Bob Wortman, Adam Mabe and Sarah Mabe ; great-grandchildren, Angel and Robert Payne, Makayla McCarter, Megan and Jordan Simerly. Funeral service 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, Trinity Chapel, Smith Mortuary with Rev. Charles Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment.
