MINNICH , BETTY JEAN HOOD departed this life June 8, 2007 at Saint Mary's Residential Hospice. She was born in Knoxville, October 26, 1929. Betty and her husband Bill graduated from Knoxville High School in 1947. She attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. She worked many years at Saint Mary's Medical Center in the Acute Care Department and later at Internal Medicine Associates. Betty was affectionately known as "Granny Cookie" because of the many thousands of cookies that she made over the years for family and friends. She was a gifted artist and gifted also with a loving, generous nature shown to all she met. Betty had a keen sense of history and an extraordinary memory of recent history. She donated significant archival materials representing everyday life in the area from 1928 to 1960 to the East Tennessee Historical Society. Preceded in death by parents Charles and Agnes Hood, parent-in-laws Clyde and Sally Minnich , husband William H. Minnich , and son William H. Minnich , Jr., grandson Dan Smith. Survived by daughter Amy Case, Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law William C. and Sheryl Minnich , Scottsdale, AZ; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Pam Minnich , Knoxville; grandchildren: Angela and husband Jack Anderson, William Collins, Andrew Minnich , Jewell, Callie, and Jackson Minnich , and Renee English; four great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Oakie Triplett, Knoxville; brother and sister-in-law James and Gail Hood, Fort Myers, Florida; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Frances and Ron Gill; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Betty was a long-time member of Washington Pike UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Pike UMC at 2241 Washington Pike, Knoxville, 37917, Saint Mary's Residential Hospice at 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville 37938 or The American Cancer Society. The family thanks the compassionate care-givers at Saint Mary's Hospice, especially her nurse, Debbie. A memorial service will be held later at Washington Pike UMC July 6, 2007 at 7:00 following receiving friends at 6:00.
