Charles Kennith Proffitt, 84, of Newport, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016. Ken worked at many things in his life. At the age of 12 he started working at a sawmill and later owned his own. He graded Sevier County Roads and retired from Bushs. After retirement he found his passion selling produce and meeting people. He loved bluegrass and played several instruments. Just a simple man who loved life and laughter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Proffitt; sisters, Jeanetta McCarter, Imogene Ball, Lois Rolen and Mable Hurst. He is survived by his wife, June Proffitt of Dandridge; daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Epley of White Pine, Karen (Gordon) Davidson, of Monroe, Georgia; brother, Dan (Helen) Proffitt of Newport; sister, Rinda (Dana) Majors, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chris (Mandy) Epley of Newport, Mandy Epley of New Orleans, Emily (William) Dukes of Hull, Georgia, Matt (Kathy) Davidson, of Waco, Texas; great-grandchildren, Lucas Epley of Newport, Judah Davidson of Waco, Texas, Jacob (Emily) Epley of Newport and Sara Samples of Johnson City; great-great-grandson, Wyatt Epley of Newport; also several, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. James Suggs and Ray Ball officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday April 10, 2016 in the Rolen-Breeden Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Saturday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
