Joseph Wilfred Winders, Sr., age 95 of Maryville, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a long time, faithful member of Maryville First Baptist Church for over 60 years. He loved his church and church family and served in many capacities at the church over the years where he also loved singing in the adult church choir. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran serving during World War II in Europe. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and was a Civil Engineer for TVA, retiring in 1980 after 31 years. Mr. Winders was an avid golfer who belonged to Wallace Hills and Lambert Acres golf courses for many years, number one fan and season ticket holder for Maryville High School Football for over 50 years and an avid Lady Vol fan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alcie Collier Winders; last of 8 siblings of parents, Joseph William and Pet Winders.
Survived by: daughter, Lynne M. Winders, Knoxville; special "adopted" daughter, Linda Klein, Knoxville; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet C. and Doyle M. Daugherty, Maryville, Toni and Terry L. Burns, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph W., Jr. and Debby T. Winders, Maryville; grandsons, Logan E. Winders, Joseph Zane and wife Callie Winders, John L. and wife Heather Burns, James T. and wife Tirzah Burns; great grandchild, Oliver B. Burns; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Monday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard and Rev. Tommy Winders officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sherwood Mausoleum for an entombment service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
