Hearl Bacon , 81, of Oak Park, died on Feb. 10, 2014. Born in Concord, now Knoxville, Tenn., he attended Concord Elementary School, Austin High School, and served in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, he completed a degree from Knoxville College and earned a Masters degree in History from the University of Tennessee. He moved to Chicago and began a career in education and retired from the U.S. Department of Education in 2006 where he had been employed as a Senior Institutional Review Specialist.
Mr. Bacon lived with his wife of 48 years, Jeanette (nee Anderson) in Oak Park from 1974 until his death. He is survived by his children, Alaina (Kermit) Johnson and Jason Bacon ; grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Gabriel and Karena. He was preceded in death by his parents, Limon Sr. and Jeannette Bacon . Services will be celebrated in Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

BACON , HEARL - 81, of Oak Park, Illinois, died on February 10, 2014. Born in Concord, now Knoxville, Tennessee, he attended Concord Elementary School, Austin High School and served in the United States Army. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, he completed a bachelor's degree from Knoxville College and a master's degree in history from the University of Tennessee. After moving to Chicago he began a career in education. He retired from the US Department of Education in 2006, where he had been employed as a senior institutional review specialist. From 1974 until his death, he lived with his wife, the former Jeanette Anderson, of 48 years in Oak Park, Illinois. Hearl Bacon was the beloved father of Alaina (Kermit) Johnson and Jason Bacon ; adored grandfather of Alexander, Zachary, Gabriel and Karena; son-in-law of Tennessee (Tennie) Anderson; brother-in-law of Pauline Bacon ; and uncle of JoAnn Bacon . He was the youngest son of the late Limon , Sr. and Jeanette Bacon ; and brother of the late Limon , Jr. A celebration of life memorial service will be March 24, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
