January 27, 1944 - April 12, 2016
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, James Kenneth “Ken” Williams, of Halls, passed away on April 12, 2016, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born on January 27, 1944, in Sevierville to Dan Hobart and Dora Proffitt Williams. Ken graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and worked his entire career at the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge.
An avid sportsman, Ken played football and basketball in high school and enjoyed an active lifestyle his entire life, playing tennis and golf and hiking in the Smoky Mountains with family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his eleven grandchildren, playing football, baseball, badminton, and basketball. Even as his disease progressed, he could still shoot a perfect three pointer. He also enjoyed coin collecting and Tennessee football. Ken was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was known for his quiet, easy going demeanor and lived out his faith throughout his life. Ken had a wonderful sense of humor and gave the gift of joy and laughter to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mattie Shields and brother Hobart. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Glenda Sue Tarwater Williams, sons Mark (Jane), Steve (Lori), Travis (Julie); grandchildren Ben, Daniel, Andrew, Jacob, Tyson, Isaiah, Micah, Anna, Sammy, Shiloh and Asa; siblings Donald, Mary Ownby, Joe, Paul, Dave, Janice Whaley and many nieces and nephews.
