Dallas Iman Coates was born November 13, 1999, and departed his earthly home Friday, March 24, 2000, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Our little angel lived 131 days from birth, weight of 1 lb., 3 and 3/4 ounces to 5 lbs., 14 ounces.
He leaves to mourn his loving mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus L. and Cruscha (Davis) Coates of Nashville; sisters, Tamara and Atterika; brother, Marcus Jr.; grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Billy Ray (Katherine Adell) Davis of Newport, Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Jessie) Clayton, Alpharetta, Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. Carlos (Lynn) Coates of Torrance, California; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus (Carrie) Swagerty of Newport, Mr. and Mrs. Marion (Marjorie) Jones of East Louis, Illinois, and the late Rev. and Mrs. Ernest W. (Freedia) Davis, better known as the "Old-Fashion Preacher"; and the great-great-grandson of the late Sue Woods.
Dallas will be deeply missed by his adopted aunt, Diane Boyd, Vanderbilt nurse and adopted god-grandmother, Geraldine Billings, whom she called her angel.
The body will lie in state from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, preceding the home-going service at 2 p.m. The service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church, White Oak Street, Newport, Tennessee, with Revs. James Billings, Dewey Cooper and Gerald Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
