David F. Ewaskowitz, 74, of Schofield, made the ultimate journey to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2011, surrounded by his family, at Ministry Saint Clare's Hospital.
Born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on March 31, 1937 to the late John and Evelyn (Gigstead) Ewaskowitz, David was the youngest of four sons. Brothers Johnny, Jerome, and Eugene, all of whom preceded him in death.
David graduated Sturgeon Bay High School in 1955 and shortly after enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was part of the 101st Airborne and was chosen to be a member of the Honor Guard. After his enlistment was complete he spent the next two years in Broadcasting School in California. After graduation he moved back to Waupaca, where he met the love of his life Margaret Lind. Together they moved to Madison and married on December 17, 1960. David began working at WISM Radio and the birth of their son, Scott followed. A daughter, Jill was born before a move to Lansing, Michigan, where the birth of their third child Tiffany took place. Later a move to Kaukauna in 1967 began David's management career with Forward Communications. This lasted until 1985 at which time he purchased WIFC/WSAU Radio. The stations were sold and he pursued a brief career as a stock broker. It was during this time he realized broadcasting was his true passion and WMQA was acquired and WHDG in Rhinelander was started, both of which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2000. He has also served on many boards some of which include WBA Board of Directors, the National Radio Broadcasters Association, ABC Radio Network Affiliates and as President of the Wausau Country Club. He also took great pride in being inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
David enjoyed life's simple pleasures, friends, golf, cards, yard work and a good Bloody Mary. He achieved many goals in his life but his greatest joy came from his faith and family, his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret, his three kids, six grandchildren and above all God.
