(May 7, 1935 - November 28, 2008)
Sally Lou Ewaskowitz, 73, of 435 N. Hudson Ave, Sturgeon Bay, died Friday (November 28, 2008) at Door County Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born May 7, 1935, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Marvin and Olive (Ahlswede) Woller. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1953. On July 4, 1954, she married the love of her life—Eugene R. Ewaskowitz. Together, they raised their five children in Sturgeon Bay.
Sally was deeply connected within the community through a variety of activities and most importantly through her many good friends. Sally was a faithful member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. She was also a member of the Homemakers/Craft Club and the Garden Club. Sally loved to spend time outdoors in her gardens, and was very proud that her back yard was recognized as a certified wildlife sanctuary by the National Wildlife Federation. When she wasn’t in the garden, Sally enjoyed reading, sewing, and writing letters to friends and family. She was an avid traveler who visited 18 different countries. She volunteered at the Humane Society and served on the Board of Directors for Door County Community Concerts. Meeting and helping customers was something she truly enjoyed during her 18 years as an associate at Prange’s/Younkers until her retirement in the fall of 2007. Family was very important to Sally, and she brought endless joy and encouragement to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family and friends will remember her warm kitchen as a place for gathering and sharing stories, love, and great meals.
Survivors include her five children: Jeff, Mark, Tim, Lori (David) Wargowski, and Andrew (Kelly); her sister Nancy (Giles) Tlachac and brother Stanley Woller, both of Sturgeon Bay; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Gene, and nephew Peter Tlachac.
A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Moravian Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Huehns Funeral Home and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Door County Humane Society, Door County Land Trust, and Baileys Harbor Scottie Rally.
