Ownby, James Ralph – age 81 of West Knoxville, passed away Feburary 10, 2009 at UT Medical Center. A member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church since 1938, Mr. Ownby was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II and retired from Y-12 after 38 years of service. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Webb, Cecil, Howard and Newton Ownby; sisters: Evelyn Duncan, Sara Ownby and Doris Barbee. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Dorothy L. Ownby; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Roy Warner of Anchorage, AK and Sara Jane and Zeke Nauman of Knoxville, TN; granddaughters: Casey Kerr of Anchorage, AK and Hannah Nauman of Knoxville, TN; sister: Thelma Hodges of Chugiak, AK; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews; special friends Charles and Doris Pless. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12 at Highland Memorial Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held in the chapel, conducted by Rev. Chip Maye. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Lyons View Pike by 11:15 a.m. on Friday for an 11:30 a.m. committal service. Full military rites will be bestowed by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Hill Baptist Church “Kitchen Fund,” 7409 Northshore Drive SW, Knoxville, TN 37919.
