Dr. Robert Richard Knoll D.D.S. age 74 of Maryville passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, April 12, 2015 at his home. He was born on November 13, 1940 in Jamestown, NY to the late Margaret Mabel White Knoll and Bert Jackson Knoll. He was raised in Sinclairville, NY, near Chautauqua Lake where he attended Cassadaga Valley Central School. Bob also attended Jamestown Community College in NY, the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and the University of Buffalo Dental School. During his 36 years dental career he had practices at Fort Campbell in KY, Glens Falls, NY, and 26 years in Maryville, TN. He cared deeply about and was very loved by his patients. He was awarded a coveted fellowship from the American College of Dentistry. Throughout his professional career, he maintained a keen interest in post-doctoral education keeping up regularly with dental advances at the renowned Pankey Institute. After his retirement as a dentist, he thoroughly enjoyed his job at The Vienna Coffee Company. Bob was a longstanding member and past president of Maryville Rotary Club and longtime board member at First Federal Savings and Loan. Bob was a man of strong faith who both led and attended various groups of Christian fellowship. In his free time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling, reading (he had just finished reading the Bible through for the sixth time), snow skiing, National Ski Patrol. He was a loving father, devoted son and husband and widely known for his gentle, kind, and generous spirit. Preceded in death by: Brother, Ronald Gene Knoll; Parents, Bert Jackson Knoll and Margaret Mabel White Knoll; Wife of 43 years, Gail Tadlock Wilson Knoll who passed away in February 2005; Brother-in-law, William Peck; Daughter-in-law, Susan Phillips Knoll; Beloved Dog, Button. Survivors include: Wife, Sandy Phillips Knoll and her daughter, Jennifer Phillips; Children, Tadlock Scot Knoll & wife Leanne Filson Knoll, Dr. David Andrew Knoll & wife Kathryn Knoll, Kimberly Knoll Johnson & husband Brent William Johnson; Grandchildren, John Marshall Tadlock Knoll, Caleb Jackson Knoll, Olivia Margaret Knoll, Andrew Robert Knoll, Kasey Grizzell, Ellie Kathleen Johnson, Carson Lewis Johnson; Sister, Diana Knoll Peck. Special friends and neighbors including, Candith Bryant. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Dr. George Hollander officiating.
