Norma Jean Proffitt, 78, of rural Wabash, died at 2:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine. She was born June 11, 1931, in Wabash County, to Charles Warren and Lora (Lawson) Ogan.
She married Ralph B. Proffitt in Wabash, on July 2, 1949. Norma was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church in Wabash. She lived in Huntington County 25 years. She loved to golf and was a member of the Etna Acres Golf Club. Norma also enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and enjoyed singing and square dancing. She made and decorated cakes for weddings and birthdays.
She is survived by her husband Ralph B. Proffitt, four children, Larry B. (Marcia) Proffitt of Wabash, Christine (Len) Cross of Andrews, Karen (Nick) Weaver of Huntington, and Debbie Robinson of LaFontaine; two brothers, Chet Ogan and Charles Ogan both of Wabash and three sisters, Louise Friermood, and Vivian Proffitt, both of Wabash and Ruth Wall of North Manchester, 10 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Cemetery, Somerset. Friends may call 9-11am Saturday at the funeral home.
