MORTON , HAZEL LAY NEWMAN - born in Mascot April 21, 1917, a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, friend, aunt, and great-aunt, died at her home Monday, July 26, 1999. She was a graduate of Ft. Sanders School of Nursing in 1939 and was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. Morton was a member of Kirk Hills Presbyterian Church and loved any kind of handwork. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, J.W. Morton ; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Howard Bozeman; brother, R.A. Newman; sisters-in-law, Mae Morton Cave of Jacksonville, FL and Emily Morton Paulk of Willacoochee, GA; brother-in-law, King Morton of Venice, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Harold Miller, Micki and Dan Shipe; grandchildren, Dan Shipe, Jr and his wife, Kristal, David Miller and his wife, Kellie of Kingsport, Whitney Miller Rowell and her husband, Terry of Sevierville, and Michael Shipe. Family and friends will meet at the West Adair entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery Thursday for a 10:00 a.m. graveside service with Rev. Robert Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 6324 Papermill Rd., Knoxville, TN 37919, American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Rd., Knoxville, TN 37909, or the Arthritis Foundation, 212 S. Peters Rd., Knoxville, TN 37923. The family will receive friends 7-9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
