Newman Marshall Seay, of South Knoxville, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a battle with cancer. Newman was the owner and operator of Knox Electric Service since 1967. He served in the Tennessee National Guard from 1959-1961 before joining the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. He was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Power Europe (SHAPE) in Paris, France, providing personal communications to the USAF four star general, Lauris Norstad and USA four star general, Lyman Lemnitzer. Newman accepted Jesus Christ as the true Savior at an early age during a tent revival in Pigeon Forge, TN. He was baptized at Stock Creek in Blount County, TN. For many years Newman's passion was genealogy, tracing his lineage back to the late 1600's when the Seays first came to Virginia. He was also very active in community affairs and championed for the fair treatment of low income neighborhoods. Newman was preceded in death by grandparents Reuben Conway and Ella Cobble See (Seay), Owen Samuel and Elizabeth McDaniel Money; parents, Enoch Franklin and Dorothy Mildred Money Seay; brother, Glenn Franklin; sister, Nancy Long; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Long, Jerome Currie, Woody Blann, Agnes Seay; nephew, Chris Long. He is survived by wife, Della Gibson Seay; son, Enoch "William" Seay; daughters, Stephanie Seay Moore (Chris Moore), Matilda Seay (Nicholas Roberts); brothers and sisters, Owen Seay, William Seay, Lillian Currie, Molly Lundberg, Gale Seay; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doris Seay, Paul Gibson, Beulah Murray, Lowell Lundberg, Lois Seay; and long time family friend, Rosemarie Maffeo. Newman was very fond of and loved his many nephews and nieces. A special thank you to the CCU orange trauma team at UT hospital. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 12:00-2:00pm at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. The family will hold a private burial service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
