Ethel Cordia King Whaley age 95 of King Hollow Road, Sevierville, passed away on December 8, 2012 at Ft. Sanders Sevier Nursing Home.
She was born March 29, 1917 in the same log cabin where her father was born in the Big Greenbrier section of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park and lived there most of the time until the age of eighteen. She was a long-time member of Big Greenbrier Primitive Baptist Church.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to being an admirable, homemaker. For many years she and her husband made hand woven linens which were sold in surrounding-area craft shops and elsewhere. She and her husband Virgil were married for sixty years until his death in 1995, at the age of 84.
Preceded in death by, husband, Virgil Webster Whaley; son, James Lowell Whaley; parents, James H. and Etta Sneed King; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lenore and Audley McCarter, Jennie and Braskie Scarbrough, Ida and Albert Crisp, brother, Wayne King and brother-in-law, Lee Arden.
Survivors include, daughter, Linda S. Cole; sons and daughters-in-law, Wendell A. and Clara Whaley, Bonnie McMahan Whaley, Jerry W. and Carolyn L. Whaley, Jeff and Laura Lucas-Whaley; eight grandchildren, Richard Whaley and wife, Kelli, LuAnn Whaley, Greg Whaley, Kim Osburn and husband, Bill, Keith Agnew, Kristi Anderson and husband, Todd, Lori Blalock and husband, Doug, Amanda Whaley; eight, great grandchildren, Paige and Brooke Whaley, Danielle Large, Bailey and Zachary Raper, Charles, Lila and Anna Kate Blalock; sister, Margie Arden, sister-in-law, Mary King, niece and nephews, Patty DeArmond, Ronnie King and Steve King, special niece, Joyce Hodges and husband, Howard.
The family would like to thank Dr. Curtis L. Burke and staff and the staff of St. Sanders-Sevier Nursing Home for the care and devotion shown to our loved one. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Greenbrier Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Linda S. Cole, Clerk, 2468 King Hollow Road, Sevierville, TN. 37876.
Services will be held 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Rawlings Funeral Home in Sevierville, with Rev. Maurice Shults officiating.
Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday prior to the service.
