Edward Barnett (E.B.) Woods, Jr. age 58, was born on December 2, 1946 and departed this life or December 22, 2004. Born and raised in Newport, Tennessee, "E.B.", as he was affectionately known by those who knew and loved him, was the eldest child of the late Edward Barnett, Sr., and Kate (Kitty) Allen Woods.
After graduating from Tanner High School in 1965, E.B. enlisted in the United States Air Force. On February 23, 1969, L.B. married Cherlaine Watlington of Norton, Virginia. This 35 year marriage blessed with two daughters, Stacey Woods Dykes and Jennifer Woods.
Serving his country for 23 years, E.B. and his family lived and were stationed In locales of North Carolina, South Carolina, Guam, Okinawa, Korea, and Michigan to name a few. Upon retirement in 1987, L.B. moved his family back home to Newport, at which time he became an employee at Sonoco Products. He worked at Sonoco for the past 12 years.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, E.B. was a member and deacon at the New Zion A.M.E. Church.
E.B. was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Kate (Kitty) Woods; grandparents, Miles and Elise Davidson; and Sarah Wood,; sisters, Glenda Faye Stewart and Janice Marie Bethea; one uncle, Elfonzo Davidson and two special brothers-in-law, Melvin and Bobby Watlington.
He leaves to mourn his loss his loving and devoted wife of 35 years, Cherlaine Watlington Woods; daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Scotty Dykes, of Kingston, TN; daughter, Jennifer Woods, Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren Zephanie and Aaron Dykes of Kingston, TN and Maia Grant, Washington, D.C.; sisters, Mary Florence Woods and Catrina Adell Woods, both of Newport. TN; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Harold Grace of Lansing, MI; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Kevin and Karen Woods, Newport, TN; Phillip and Darlene Woods, Cape Coral, FL; Wesley and Kennette Woods, Newport, TN; uncle, Robert Woods, Newport, TN; three brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, James Watlington (Chris), Norton, VA; Preston (Ann) Watlington, Philadelphia, PA; Frankie (Paula) Watlington, North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Diane Watlington, DeRidder, LA; Joyce Watlington, Baltimore, MD; and Lila Mae Watlington, Columbia, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Edward Barnett "E.B." will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
The family will receive family and friends on Monday, December 27, 2004 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Gums Spring Union Cemetery at 10 a.m. on December 28, 2OO4.
