James O'Dell age 93 of Maryville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Blount Memorial Hospital. James was a member of Piney Level Baptist Church over 50 years serving as a Sunday School Teacher and in any way the church or members needed. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II throughout Europe earning various medals and commendations. James retired from Johnson & Galyon Construction Co. and was a talented and generous gardener. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Preceded in death by: Infant son, Harvey; Daughter, Carolyn Lawson; Grandson, Eddie O'Dell. Survivors include: Beloved wife of 68 years, Hazel Benson O'Dell; Son & Daughter-in-law, James & Norma O'Dell; Daughter & Son-in-law, Mary Helen & Ronnie Mullins; Son & Daughter-in-law, David & Kay O'Dell; Daughter, Ethel R. Hurst; Grandchildren, Stanley Lynn Lawson, Sam Lawson, Judy Lawson Smith, Christy O'Dell Davis, Teddy James Mullins, Rhonda Mullins Peralez; Jennifer O'Dell Sands, Rachel O'Dell Mancini, Johnny Burchfield, and Justin Lee Hurst; Great-Grandchildren, James Coley Mullins, Nathan Reid Mullins, Marcus Lee Mullins, Ethan James Davis, Emily Elizabeth Davis, Gabriella Renae Peralez, Alexandria Grace Peralez, William James Lawson, Abigail Louise Carolyn Lawson, Bradley James Smith, and Carol Ann Smith; Brother & Sister-in-law, Frank & Virginia O'Dell; Sister-in-law, Mary Curtis. Funeral service will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. George Macht and Rev. Chuck Young officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Level Baptist Church Cemetery. In the spirit of James' love for sharing his garden, please make donations to your local food bank.
