James Houston "Dog" Simerly , age 86, born April 11, 1921, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2008. He was a World War II veteran serving in India. He was retired from Alcoa after 42 years of service, a member of their 25 Year Club, and the Local Union 309. He coached Connie Mack League at Eagleton from 1961-1966. Preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn Marie Wilburn Simerly ; parents, LaFayette and Nola Tennessee Simerly ; brothers, Martin, Gamble, and Howard; sisters, Claire, Clemmie, Carrie and Velma. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, Chester Lynn and Jean Simerly ; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Raymond "Buster" King; granddaughters and spouses, Denise and Terry Gardner, Deb and Frank Webb; grandson and wife, Colby and Donna Simerly ; great grandchildren, Mallory and Will Gardner, Nathan and Natalie Simerly ; special nieces, Judy Coatney and Brenda Thomas, and other nieces and nephews; best friend, Francis Myers, and "The Mall Gang". Funeral Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. George Macht officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Grandview Cemetery for the Interment. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Blount Memorial Hospice, 1095 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 S. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
