ROCK HILL Mr. George D. Burnett Jr., 85, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Piedmont Medical Center.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Grandview Memorial Park - Cherry Road.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., George was a son of the late George Dewey Burnett Sr., and the late Elma Bridges Burnett . He served and protected our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer, USS Ingersoll and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a resident of Rock Hill, S.C. for 21 years.
George leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Mary Tucker Burnett , who shared 57 years of their lives together. Together they have one son, George Tucker and wife, Andrea, of Rock Hill and one daughter, Mary Burnett Cimino and husband, James, of Flowery Branch, Ga. George has been blessed with three grandchildren, Megan and Josh Burnett and Amanda Cimino. George also leaves behind one brother, Daniel Burnett and two sisters, Angeline Hayes and Marylou Barron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion Honor Guard, PO Box 2745 CRS, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
