Osborne, Warren Ross, M.D.-Age 79 of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday afternoon, May 15, 2010. Warren was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and his family. He was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, in 1931. The youngest of six children, he was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Ollie (Bush) Osborne; brothers, Solomon Osborne, Jr., Wiley Osborne; sister, Marywynn Robertson. He is survived by his older brother, Samuel Osborne; sister, Thelma McMillian; loving wife of 57 years Nancy (Bray) Osborne; five children. His children include Dallas and Sherri Osborne, Dallan Osborne, Shaunee and Gary Wolfe, Tracee and Mark Smiddy and Wendy and Jim Thames. Surviving grandchildren include James and Shawnee Osborne, Jennifer and Josh Swiger, Danny and Benjamin Wolfe, Vared Mizrahi and Halley Thames. Warren was the valedictorian of his Fort Lauderdale High School Class of 1949. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and became a Naval Aviator during the Korean War. After the War, he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis. In September, 1960, Warren graduated from medical school with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. His excellent academic achievement opened many doors of opportunity. He initially was in private practice in Florida, and later joined the Medical Department of the Tennessee Valley Authority, after he obtained a Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) from the University of Pittsburgh. He was Head of the Knoxville office of TVA's Medical Department for 20 years. The last 15 years of his medical career was with the VA Outpatient Clinic in Knoxville. Warren found great satisfaction in practicing medicine. He especially enjoyed providing medical care to veterans at the VA Outpatient Clinic and was proud of the fact he saved many lives during his medical career. Warren was a witty, wonderful father who enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and had a variety of hobbies including collecting antique furniture, pocket watches and pocket knives. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, at Berry Funeral Home in South Knoxville. Funeral service will follow directly after at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 1:30 p.m. interment. The family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation for the care received from the physicians at U.T. Hospital, and especially for the excellent care provided by Dr. Jones, and the wonderful staff of caregivers at The Ben Atchley Veteran's Home.
